How I got my first job

In the end of my college IIIrd year, I was pretty sure that somewhere till the december i will get my job and i was also confident that i will not be able to get through in the first 10-15 companies as well. Reason being there were quite a few people having more percentage than me and most of them were preparing for interviews quite hard. There was one big drawback and big advantage in me. Biggest drawback was in me was I had a very very bad communication skill and Biggest advantage is my ability in aptitude tests are excepionally well. In a nutshell, I was prepared myself that not being disappointed if i am not getting job in first few months.

We used to go seniors also, sir how did you cross the XYZ comp interview, most of them response is Its quite easy since its depends on your luck and preformance on that day. I used to think about my them are "Hawa de rahe hain since unka ho gaya hain. Itna easy kaise ho sakta hia interview cross karna."

The first company in my collage was TCS. Before TCS there were few rumors that they will have four sections, and language sections is taken from the Barrens. I was really really bad in vocab. So first time in my life i doubted my self that whether i can cross the aptitude test or not. So I called at my home and cleared that TCS is coming and i will not be able to go through the exam.

Finally the test day camee, When i saw the test , I feel it was quite easy. Now i gained my confidence back. I cleared the exam quite easily. But the major bottleneck was there "Interview". Where due to my communication problem, I can not even make any person understand what I m trying to communicate. So due to obvious reason i could not make through the interviews.

When I came out of the TCS interview, I felt so depressed that I missed a job by very narrow margin. As I stated earlier, I was really sure that i dont have a chance to get in the first 10 comps. but i was really disappointed since It was so close to me. 60 people were selected in TCS from my batch.

The second comp was CTS. Criteria for appearing in CTS campus was 60% in each of semester. The 3rd Sem (we call it black semester) I got minimum in 60.4%. So somehow i fit into the criteria. In the preplacement talk, they talked about so many things.. the only things i heard is the package will be 2.11 lpa and everything will be in hand. I was really exicted to hear the package... all in hand means (17500 rs per month).

Then the apptitude test started, some 60 question in 60 minutes.. I did well and got through aptitude.. that was expected. Now interview was on next day 10:30 AM. I was really annonyed to myself that why i did not enhance my comunication skill. I studied some things about power systems because i used to pretend that power systems is my area of interest actually it was easiest subject in electrical engineering.

Next day, I reached placement center at 9:00 AM. I was given some form, which i need to fill before interview. It has some question like what is your short term goal, long term goal. Achievements, strengths weakness. To be honesh, i was not sure what is my short term goal and long team goal. I asked some of my friends, they suggested me some idea and I filled the form. In my weakness, I clearly wrote that my communicaton skills are not good.

Now Interview time came, I was very very nervous. Interviewer even did not look at my resume and even marksheet and certificates. He took the form and started having a look at it. Then he saw my achivements which is nowhere near to what a studious person should have. My achievements were man of the tournament in the college level cricket tournament. His first sentence was "So you play cricket" now tell me How does a ball swing. The only thing ever i felt confident about is cricket. I answered that. Now he started asking more question realted to cricket. Because of that I gained some confidence.

After 10 mins of cricket discussion, he asked about my area of interest that. "Power System" I said. becuse that is only topic in Electrical Engg in which I knew some thing. I am not sure what is the reason i was able to give answer of most of his questions may be becuase of fortune or becuase of i gained some confidence. After few more minutes, he asked me if your communications skills is not good what are you doing to overcome this... I replied which was a complete lie, I have joined the Soft Skill training so in next few months I will improve my communication skill. The truth was Soft Skill course has happened 2-3 months back, I did not join since it was after classroom hours and I did not want to miss cricket because of that.

I was not so sure what would be the outcome of this interview. I was little confidant since I was able to answer most of the questions but still there is always doubt. In the evening 4:00 Pm i heard taht some of the people are called for second round and I was not there in the list. I was totally down since I understood that they called only those persons who cleared the first round.

Results were supposed to come 09:00 PM in night. I was already lost hope completely so I did not go for th result declaration instead I chose to perpare for the Infosys which was coming next day. I went into Com's room (Com is my friend, he was not at the hostel since he already got the job in TCS and left for his home for vacation.) and started solving Infosys old question papers.

Around 10:00 PM somebody pushed the door with a bang and broke into the room, it was Mukesh. he hugged me and said you got selected. I was shocked, I could not believe it, First job always means too much. He told he was there for the result announcements. Nitin and Manoj also got selected.

We went downstaires, i called home from the student club. Parents were also amused. When I was coming out from the SC, "Bang" somebody hit me from the back and at my back, Mayank was there, smiling. I recieved more GPLs (i can not reveals full form here, this is one of way of enjoying/celebration in my college ) from my other friends.

Next day, I collected my letter from the college and left for home. Since still there were few days left in college commencement.

So thats how I got my first job. Now I feel getting job in college is really easy and outside college is too tough.

Inspiration

This is one of the most inspirational poem written by great 'Suryakant Tripathi "Nirala"'. I murmur this song when i fail in doing something. This poem gives me lots of courage and desire to go for it again.
